World Nomads are an innovative Australian company that have become the leading travel insurance company for independent travellers.

Almost unique in this field is the fact that there is no maximum duration to their policies allowing a customer to indefinitely extend their policy, and since they also allow their customers to claim online while they are still away, their level of online service is world class.
World Nomads also seem intent on helping their travellers (or any travellers actually) travel a little more easily and safely through their FREE iPod language guides which allow you to easily learn about 30 or 40 basic phrases in up to 15 languages. Smart and humourous.
We also commend them for establishing the Footprints Network a program by which their customers contribute back to the communities in which they travel, which is a somewhat surprising move for an insurance company.

Travel Insurance Direct obviously put a huge amount of effort into listening to their customers and have an attention to detail that ensures there is no wasted effort and their customers have everything they need at their fingertips
They have a maximum age limit of 81 and have developed a smooth process for handling pre-existing medical conditions, which makes them particularly suitable for Seniors. And if that still isn't enough, their call centre is open 24hrs a day 7 days a week. Definitely the one to beat.

In terms of financial backing and security, Travel Insurance Direct has some fine pedigree and is underwritten by Allianz Australia. With their attention to superb customer service TID seem intent on dominating the online holiday travel insurance market with high levels of cover at prices unparalleled in Australia.

Problem is, most Insurer's won't insure you if you're already OS, even if purchasing in advance. TID allows you to purchase when already OS. With job dates never having a clear end date, being able to book isurance once it's know is great. And their policy is better than most sites that insist you buy whilst still on Aus soil! Highly recomend them.

I hope nothing like that happens in my case. From the trouble free exercise of getting a quote online to making a personal call to query whether I'd be covered for swine flu if something happened to me overseas - the service is hard to beat. Within second a staff member had emailed me details related to their stand on swine flu. It was a fair policy - hard to beat.I'd definitely recommend them - value for money and at half the cost!!

Chere | 29/05/2009 10:24:23 AM I can't vouch for how they handle claims (and hopefully will never have to) but the sign-up process was extremely easy, there is plenty of assistance along the way with relevant links and information, they don't hide who underwrites the insurance policy like many online sites do, and I had my policy sorted and ready to print within minutes. I managed to get $4,000 additional cover for photographic equipment and the entire policy still cost me LESS THAN HALF of what FlightCentre's nominated insurer (Vero/Covermore) was going to charge for a policy without the extra camera cover.As others have said, the proof is in making a claim, but all other things being equal at the moment I'd definitely recommend checking out TID first. You'll almost certainly check them out last as well, once you see first hand what great value it is.

Insure4less are a new entrant to the market for online travel insurance, their site is clean and fast and they have a high quality underwriter.
Their prices are good, although this is achieved by focusing on the younger demographic and excluding all pre-exisiting medical conditions among other things.

Suresave is the 2nd largest provider of travel insurance in Australia.
They have some exceptional and innovative products particularly for older people and those with pre-existing medical conditions. In fact they are about the only online travel insurance company we could find where there was no upper age limit.

I sustained an injury while in Plungkung national park accessible only by boat or a 12 hour 4x4 journey through dense tropical jungle. I dislocated my foot and broke my leg and with some vascular damage leaving me with potential blood clot issues which could of been life threatening . As I did not have a credit card with me (all my id etc.being back in Bali) so I could not pay for the helicopter medi-vac and I could not endure the drive back or bumpy boat ride so your team did such a good job of organising my evacuation, transfer to the BIMC and care for me while waiting to get home. Also booking me on a early flight home with a connection from Melbourne to Sydney with someone at every turn to help me with baggage and immigration. What would of been a nightmare for me travelling alone with three surfboards two bags and a broken leg became totally stress free.I would also like you to pass on my sincere appreciation to everyone at Garuda and especially the Qantas ground staff in Melbourne who were amazing and the medical team at the Bali International Medical Centre were exceptional with the facilities being A+ and staff caring for me like I was a member of there own family.I have just been released from hospital after surgery to rebuild my leg with steel plates and screws, my journey now is one of rehabilitation and from what the medical staff have told me getting me out of Indonesia and into surgery quickly was the best option as they know of one case like mine where the patient died due to blood clots .So please personally thank for me Robyn who helped on the phone in Java and Kevin who booked my flights while I was in the BIMC and keeping my wife updated in Australia and any one else behind the scene that literally could of saved my life. It is probably something that you all do on a day to day basis but for my wife & three children and I it was a good days work.I have always taken travel insurance for granted , something just incase my luggage went missing and never really considered the importance of insuring for a medical evacuation , so I can whole heatedly recommend your company to anyone looking to be insured , and all ready all my friends and family want to know about SURESAVE because you sure saved me.DB, NSW

After much searching and stressing I have discovered that WorldNomads is one of/if not the only travel insurance provider that will insure Australians who are not currently living in Australia, or have already started there travelling. It was a great relief to finally find them, it was reasonably priced and very easy to complete online. THANKS!

World Nomads provided a guarantee to a hospital when she was hospitalized over night resulting in direct compensation. They also covered all prescriptions and other related medical charges ($1,800) and processed the claim within days after receiving all the documentation. I would recommend copying all receipts in case there is any issues. We were very satisfied with the results of our claim after wondering if we would be out in the dark when we did need them. World Nomads came through with their insurance in a very timely fashion! Will definitely buy again.

They have a great cover package, you can do everything online, they are cheap, reliable, offer a variety of other services (like language guides for your iPod, travel journal, safety updates), you can choose how much to contribute to which Footprints program (and they've been doing footprints longer than most I think). I've never had to make a claim but have confidence that the process would be as smooth as the rest of it!
