Can I buy insurance for one way travel?
Yes. When entering your details, simply select the date you want the insurance to end in the "When are you returning?" field.
Please note however, in the event of a claim, you will need to demonstrate that it was your intention to return to Australia. Also, if you are repatriated during your trip and do not hold a return ticket, you will be required to reimburse the cost of the return ticket to us.

Am I still covered if I work while travelling overseas?
You are allowed to engage in non-hazardous, non manual work while you are overseas. However, you are not covered for Personal Liability while working.

What sort of things does Cheap Travel Insurance cover?
Our policy covers you for medical expenses incurred overseas, medical evacuation, cancellation costs, personal baggage, personal liability and additional expenses.

Is there a cooling off period?
Definitely!
If you are not completely happy with your travel insurance within 14 days from the date of purchase, we will give you a full refund of the premium paid provided no claims have been made or you have not started your trip and you give us written confirmation of the cancellation.

How do I make a claim?
In the event of an incident or loss, you need to download and fill out the claim form. All claims must be made within 30 days of your trip ending.
Once we receive all the ORIGINAL relevant documentation a claim is processed within 10 working days.

Is there any type of emergency service available?
24 hour emergency assistance is available through Specialty Assist 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Specialty Assist is able to liaise with doctors and hospitals worldwide to guarantee medical expenses if medically necessary to arrange emergency repatriation with medical escort, to give guidance and help to other members of the party, or to pass a message to relatives.

Am I covered when riding a motorbike?
Yes, provided you hold the relevant valid licence for the country in which you are travelling in and adhere to all conditions of that licence (i.e. engine capacity restrictions), you are covered under all sections of the policy except personal liability. Please note however that we do not provide coverage for damage to motor vehicles or your liability arising from use of a motor vehicle, including motorbikes.

Am I covered when driving a car?
Yes, subject to you holding the relevant valid licence to drive in the country you are travelling in and that you adhere to the conditions of that licence. Please note however that we do not provide coverage for damage to motor vehicles or your liability arising from use of a motor vehicle.
Coverage applies to all sections of the policy except personal liability. You should find out first if the car owner or rental company provides this for you.

Are my credit card details safe when purchasing through the website?
We make a secure transaction with the bank via a payment gateway. We do not see, store or record these credit card details, simply receive authorisation from the banking institution. This connection uses a 128bit encrypted SSL web server certificate so that any information is encrypted and scrambled.

Can I buy a policy if I'm already overseas?
Unfortunately, no - you cannot buy a policy if you've already departed. If you would like to insure with us, you must buy your policy before you leave Australia.

I'm spending time in two different regions. Which one do I choose?
You need to select the higher of the two regions in this case. For example, if you're going to the US and the UK in the same trip, then you would need to choose Worldwide including USA, Canada and Japan to cover your entire trip. Or if you're spending time in Thailand and Bali, then you'd choose Worldwide excluding USA, Canada and Japan.

Do you cover pre-existing medical conditions?
Unfortunately our policy only provides cover for unforeseen medical events, and any claims related to pre-existing medical conditions are not covered. Our definition of a pre-existing medical condition is:
 1. An ongoing medical or dental condition of which you are aware, or related complication you have, or the symptoms of which you are aware;
 2. A medical or dental condition that is currently being, or has been investigated, or treated by a health professional (including dentist or chiropractor);
 3. Any condition for which you take prescribed medicine;
 4. Any condition for which you have had surgery;
 5. Any condition for which you see a medical specialist; or
 6. Pregnancy
